Support Groups

The Center, in partnership with local community organizations, offers the following support groups including an Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group, a Reminiscing Support Group, a Caregivers Support Group, a Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group, a Caregivers with Adult Family Members Who Have a Mental Illness, and a Men's Support Group.

All groups meet at the Southwest Suburban Center on Aging located at 111 W. Harris Avenue in La Grange, unless otherwise noted.  For further information please contact the Information and Assistance Office at (708) 354-1323, extension 15 or via e-mail at info@swscoa.org.


Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Group

A supportive group for caregivers of older adults struggling with Alzheimer’s disease, this group meets the first Friday of every month from 1:00 - 2:30 pm.  For questions and registration, please call Maribeth Stein at (708) 354-1323, extension 15. Top of page

Reminiscing Support Group

An educational and supportive group for individuals 60 years of age and older who are experiencing early memory loss.  The group meets every Friday from 1:00 - 2:30 pm.  For more information and for registration, please call (708) 354-1323, extension 15. Top of page


Caregivers Support Group

Known as “The Lunch Bunch”, this is a supportive and friendly group of caregivers who chat over lunch on issues associated with being a caregiver.  The group meets at the Bakers Square Restaurant, located at 942 S. La Grange Road in La Grange.  The group meets from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm on the first Thursday of every month.  Each participant pays for his/her lunch. Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group

Taking care of young relatives can place physical and emotional stress on a grandparent. This support group will assist grandparents in working through the issues associated with such a caregiver role.  The group is in the process of reorganizing. Caregivers with Adult Family Members Who Have a Mental Illness

The group meets the first and third Wednesday of the month from 10:00 to 11:30 am.  Group leaders are Cheryl Hendrickson and Liz Levy.  If you are interested, please contact the Center at (708) 354-1323, extension 15.

Friday Morning Regulars (The Men’s Group)

An educational and emotional support group for men only, this group gives men an opportunity to share and discuss the experiences, struggles and issues they face in life, as well as current events and issues important to men.  For more information and registration, please contact the Intake Office at (708) 354-1323, extension 15.  Top of page
